Studying Hebrew
The Hebrew curriculum at the Institute of Jewish Studies provides an overview of the various historical language levels of Hebrew with a focus on modern Hebrew.
Building on modern Hebrew, which can be learned without prior knowledge in courses for beginners, the Institute also offers language courses for learning biblical Hebrew as well as reading courses on rabbinic Hebrew from classical traditional literature and Hebrew source texts from the Middle Ages.
In advanced language and reading courses, students also expand their knowledge of modern Hebrew in order to enable them to work independently with original texts.
It is also recommended that students attend an Ulpan (intensive Hebrew course) at an Israeli university.
