PhD Program in Jewish Studies
You can pursue a doctorate at the Institute of Jewish Studies. Upon completion of the doctorate, the Faculty of Humanities at Universität Hamburg awards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.) in Jewish Studies.

Topic and Supervision
In addition, you will need a written confirmation of supervision or, in the case of a structured doctorate within the framework of the graduate school, the confirmation of a supervisory committee. Supervisors can be:
- a full-time university professor employed at the Faculty of Humanities,
- a habilitated scholar,
- a retired or retired university professor of the faculty.
The amendment of April 12, 2017, to the doctoral degree program regulations of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Hamburg applies to persons suitable to serve as supervisors.
Individual or Structured PhD Programs
At the Faculty of Humanities, you have two options for doing a doctorate:
- as part of a structured doctoral program in a graduate school.
- as part of an individual doctoral program.
Both types of PhD at the Faculty of Humanities lead to the degree Dr. phil. However, they differ in their framework conditions.
